How
to Use FileZilla
Step 1: Start FileZilla
To start FileZilla, double click on the FileZilla icon on your computer.
If you do not already have FileZilla on your computer, use these
instructions to obtain FileZilla for
your computer. FileZilla is free, open-source software that is available
for both PCs and the Mac.
Step 2: Set up a site for Alice Darling
(If you have already set up your Alice Darling site, click on the
following link to go directly to Step 3: Uploading
Files.)
When FileZilla first starts, you will see a blank screen that resembles
the following:
In the File menu, click on “Site Manager”.

The Site Manager box will appear. Click on “New Site”,
then type a name into the little box, such as “Alice Darling”.

Now change the Logontype to “Normal”.

In the Host box, type
ftp://USERNAME.alicedarling.com@alicedarling.com
where USERNAME is the one given to
you by Rosalie.

In the User box, type “YOURUSERNAME.alicedarling.com”,
where YOURUSERNAME
is the username given to you by Rosalie.
Also type your password into the Password box.

To make it easy for you to find the files you want to upload, now
click on the Advanced tab.

Click on the Browse button. A window will come up that allows you
to select the folder where you store the files that you want to upload
to Alice Darling.

Now click on the Connect button to connect with the Alice Darling
FTP site.

Step 3: Upload audio files and download transcript files
In the future, to connect to the Alice Darling FTP site, all you
will need to do is click on the small triangle and select the Alice
Darling site.

To upload a file, click once on the filename to select it.

Then, you can either drag and drop it into the adjacent window on
the right, or you can right-click on the file and choose “Upload”.

FileZilla will display the actions it is taking.

When the transfer is complete, the file appears in the right side
window (the remote, Alice Darling FTP site).

To download a transcript from the window on the right (the Alice
Darling FTP site), you can
- drag and drop from the right side
to the left (your local computer), or
- click once on the filename in the right side window to select
the file, then right click and select “Download”.
To upload or download more files, simply repeat the drag-and-drop
process or the right-click process. Or, you can select multiple files
to drag and drop into the other window.
Step 4: Settings and disconnecting
You can both disconnect and reconnect through the Server menu.

If you need to transfer many files, you can click on Edit > Settings,
and the Settings dialogue box appears. Click once to select the Transfers
page in the left hand column. Then change the number of Maximum simultaneous
transfers to “10”.

To close FileZilla, use the File > Exit menu choice, or simply click
the small “x” box at the upper right corner.
